Frequently Asked Questions
Go To FAQsWhat is ABA Therapy?
ABA stands for Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). It is a therapy based on the science of learning and behavior. ABA therapy applies this understanding to increase behaviors that are helpful, such as communication, social skills, self-help, academic readiness, just to name a few. ABA therapy is also useful in decreasing behaviors that are harmful or affect learning, such as aggression, property destruction, severe tantrums, or self-injury.
How is an ABA therapy program developed for each individual?
An ABA therapy program is developed through a series of steps: 1. Assessment: The first step is conducting an initial assessment to identify areas of strengths and areas of support. The supervisor evaluates your child’s behavior, communication skills, and learning style. 2. Goal Setting: Based on the results of the assessment, the supervisor creates skill development goals and behavioral goals. 3. Plan Development: This is the treatment planning stage. Your supervisor creates a plan outlining various strategies and interventions to help achieve these goals.
How long does ABA therapy last?
The duration of ABA therapy depends on the individual's needs and goals. Some individuals may see significant progress in a few months, while others might require ongoing support for several years.
